Little accessories can really help make an outfit, or statement as I like to say. Whether it's putting something in your hair to accent your blouse or matching earring and necklace set...it's so much you can do with little items with little splashes of color...or something basic. The whole point of an outfit is to say something, express yourself.
...what do you think these stylish bows say? One word...spunk:-)
It's fun and exciting to learn something new and want to show it off. That's what I am doing. I learned how to crochet on Christmas of 2011 and have been crocheting since.

Let's BEDAZZLE yawl!!!
If you tilt your head to the side, you would see them for what they really are...lol. Something simple just fancied up a little. This is only the beginning...bedazzling a hat next. YAY!
Maybe put some jewels on my handmade satchels too...there is no end to the creativity with yarn and a hook.
Simple Bow-Tie/Bow Pattern <======CLICK HERE...I use this pattern as well:-) It's really cool!
A good place to start learning how to crochet would be to go to a Hobby Store or Wal-Mart for that matter and find a crochet starter kit. It will usually come with 1 hook and a starter manual. You may want to grab some yarn to get started as well.

ORDER UP!
...but not in a food and beverage kinda way. So far, I have had a few custom orders. A few bows...some satchels, tote bags, hats, and some scarves; and until I know more patterns and stitches, that will be about all...lol.
This bow here was out of the clear blue. But that's what made it fun.
I was asked to make 10 bows and to be as creative as I could. And with my limited color range, this is about as creative as I could get.
I tried to think of names for each bow to help me create it but that didn't seem to work. Either I didn't have the colors to really convey the image of the name of the bow or not enough of a certain color. UGH...that sucks! Music usually helps me concentrate on crocheting. But then my beau would stretch out his arm to hand me a cigarette and of course...I would give in. With that, I have to stop and use my hand to smoke...GOSH...it's such a drag. (no pun intended)
Inspiration comes from everywhere. Ideas from other people...pictures...situations...even from a marquee on a bus side...

Flapper Hat? From the 1920's?
Wow...this was one of the easiest hats I have done straight from a printed pattern. And the color...HA! Just got that yarn from a flea market:) I need to find more of those...
I was thinking though, if I should add something, like a flower, to the brim of the hat. Tell me what you think...and could you, as the reader, tell me what you think this hat says?

I'm starting to think...??
| Black & White Flapper Hat w/3DFlower |
So I did a little research myself and saw that it really does. So my new project is to make some different variations of the UniqlyU Version of a 1920 Flapper Hat. I'm pretty excited about it too, only because I had no clue what I was making. Just goes to show that I do have true inspiration to do this. Just a few more sub skills, as I call them, (sewing w/machine, knitting w/double-sided and circular needles) Until then, I'll just work with a seamstress. :)

I was thinking about this one. I want to add a hat to it but then again I don't, I like it basic like this. Like they say, "less is more"...
Wow, it's so basic that I have nothing else to say about it. Not that it's a bad thing either. Who who wants their hats to be loud? LOL...

Making Sure It's Finished
Okay...wow, wow, wow!!! I'm so excited. With a matching hat...oh how cute!
This here is the same bag from the last post, just a little more spruced up. I added a lining and some flowers. Now my sewing skills aren't up to par...AT ALL but I can honestly say that I did a pretty darn good job with this bag.
I have very little coordination when it comes to sewing, Even with just some thread and a needle. Good thing there wasn't much precision needed with this project:) I just had to make sure the lining was attached to the bag at the bottom, on the sides, and at the top. After that, I just let gravity do the rest.
The part that I really need to work on is the structure of my bags. I have to make sure the handles and the stitches themselves, hold up to the weight in the bag. And of course, it's not that hard at all, I just have to get used to it. *MUSCLE MEMORY TIME*
Well...this is my most recent project and I cannot wait to take these prototypes out for a test run.
There will be more to come. Stay tuned, and stay UniqlyXD

Uniquely designed for me:-)
How awesome is it to be able to make any piece of accessory or clothing that you want at the drop of a dime without having to spend a dime? *OH SO AMAZING*
I can see a set now with a beanie, a scarf or cowl, maybe a shawl or poncho...ohhhh, there are so may things that I could do with this. As for now, I am thinking of adding a matching beanie. Nothing major...I still need to work on the schematics of crocheting a bag like this cause it can't hold up heavy things. Therefore, I will be using this bag strictly for my crocheting tools; extra yarn, needles, scissors, etc. It will also help me with keeping up with current projects.
But sometimes I wonder, how far could I actually go? What can't I crochet? What can I crochet? I want to explore the depths of creating something that can possibly last forever. This is a skill that I couldn't ever forget. And with the unlimited and ongoing need for creative and new fashions, I could never get bored with dressing myself! lol...Stay cool! Stay UniqlyU!

Getting in the Flow of Things
I think that I am getting the hand of this.
It's really fun once I get the hang of the stitch that I'm doing, then it's more like a rhythm. Now these three scarves are all single crochets, nothing fancy. I didn't follow any patterns, I just did what my arms wanted to. But that is just the beginning.
Now once I get used to different stitches like double and triple crochets the things I make can look more detailed. There are different ways to be creative with a ball of yarn and a crochet hook. And it's fun to create new things...lol...I can never follow a pattern. I always end up doing something different. I guess patterns are there to give me an idea and get me started.
This one was pretty fun to make. I love the color of the yarn. Here, I went with the double crochet. I even made the little yarn ball at the top of the hat. Now for someone who learned how to crochet just a few months ago, I think that this is pretty darn good:-)
I learned this craft to dress myself...lol. I wanted to be able to wake up and create an outfit that fits that was I am right then and there. I want to be able to have every piece of clothing I need to make an outfit except and hat and pick up my hook and yarn and make on that fits what I am wearing that day. I can give a whole new meaning to window shopping. *think about it*
Soon, buying clothes will be a think of the past.
I have mastered scarves, hats, beanies, and cowls. Like I said before, this is just the beginning.
I would like to see how fat I will go with this new trade. Maybe some knitting needles next, some circular needles, a sewing machine? We will see.

I started...and I finished:-)
This year, 2012, starts off with a new found skill for me. And mastering that skill will be a test of endurance, determination, will, patience, and temper. Do I have enough passion for what I am doing to enjoy it; to continue to enjoy it? Do I have the focus to want to know more and get better? Do I have the drive to want to do it; to make something on my own and finish it? Do I have the sensibility to know that in order to get better, it takes time? And do I have the common sense to work at a steady pace and know that getting frustrated isn't going to solve anything?
And since hooking like skill is acquired, for me, it can only get better, and as I get better, it starts to become apart of me. I'm looking to do great things. I'm looking to accomplish something more that just a better me. I can only go forward but I can learn from anytime and anywhere:-)
